You see right. No need to rub your eyes. The watermelon is square, and it comes with a hefty price tag of HK$1,688. Available at the Sogo Supermarket, this fruit with a commanding price, can only be from Japan.
Apparently easy for the picking (since it doesn't roll around) and easier in space-constrained Japan to stack and store, farmers there decided to cultivate this in square glass containers and the fruit took to its new shape like a hand-in-glove.
But at that price, unless someone tells me the taste is like Japan's magical Shizouka melons or Momo peaches, it would definitely be too hard to swallow.
